Three Takeaways from Our Interview with Brent Widman
One of my favorite parts of hosting Invest Well, Be Well is having the chance to talk with leaders who bring both wisdom and practical tools that can help us all invest wiser and live stronger. My recent conversation (along with co-host Robyn Murray) with Brent Widman (leadership coach, speaker, and partner at Limitless) was just that kind of conversation. Brent’s energy is contagious, and his lessons on leadership and performance are timeless.
Here are my three key takeaways from our conversation:
1. You Manage Numbers, Lead People
Brent drew a clear distinction between management and leadership: “You manage numbers, lead people.” It’s a powerful reminder for those of us in financial services and business leadership. Too often we focus only on the spreadsheets, the targets, and the dashboards. Those matter, of course, but success ultimately depends on the people behind the numbers. Leadership means inspiring, guiding, and investing in people so they can perform at their best.
2. High Performance Requires Daily Habits
We also talked about what it really takes to maintain a high-performance mindset. Brent emphasized that it’s less about grand gestures and more about consistent daily habits. From morning routines to intentional reflection, the small actions we take each day build resilience and clarity. These habits create the foundation for making better decisions, showing up with energy, and staying disciplined, whether in business, investing, or life.
3. Say Yes When Opportunity Knocks
Finally, one of Brent’s phrases really stuck with me: “When the opportunity presents itself, you have to say yes.” Too often, fear or hesitation keeps us from stepping into new roles, challenges, or ideas. Brent’s point is that growth requires action. Saying yes doesn’t guarantee comfort, but it does open the door to possibility. For leaders and investors alike, the willingness to say yes—when it matters—can be the turning point to something greater.
Brent reminded us that leadership isn’t just about managing outcomes. It’s about building people and ourselves. It’s about cultivating the right mindset and routines, and about having the courage to seize opportunities when they come.
